What’s Cooking at Hill Center: February 2021 & Beyond

It’s a new year and we are still serving up new cooking classes at Hill Center! Trying out a new recipe, or learning how to turn a unrecognizable ingredient into something delicious is a productive and fun way to kill some time at home.

Spending so much time at home means that most of us are naturally eating more homemade meals. I’ll be the first to admit that my meals can get repetitive and boring, and I wind up feeling uninspired in the kitchen. I’ve found that a quick remedy to a cooking rut is finding inspiration in something new. If you’re like me and are in need of some inspiration, then keep reading to find out what we’re cooking up at Hill Center.

Take a class with Marianne Tshihamba if you’d like to feel like you’ve left the country without actually leaving your house. Marianne’s Family Style Series offers an opportunity to not only make an international dish, but also to learn something new about a culture and region that is different from your own. Interested in Japanese food? In the mood for a soul-warming stew? Try your hand at Brazilian Moqueca! Or maybe you’d like to learn how to recreate your favorite takeout dish at home? Then tune into Marianne’s Pad thai class!

The Family Style Series is an opportunity to learn about both food and culture, but Marianne isn’t the only one serving up international dishes. Take a long lunch with Chef Mark Haskell and discover popular street foods and dishes from all around the world! What better way to spend your lunch break than making homemade dumplings and fresh paella

If you want to brush up on more basic skills, don’t worry, there’s more for you! Chef Haskell can teach you everything you need to know about preparing fish, or even making your own sausage. Our classes are interactive, so if you have any burning questions about a technique or recipe, you can get them answered firsthand from our chefs. Did I mention that you will also get a recording of the class, too? So do not fear if you can’t make a class!

For all my at-home pastry chefs out there, don’t worry, we have more than just cooking classes on our roster. Count on Chef Wendi for all of your pastry basics needs. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, she’ll be offering a Chocolate Hazelnut Tart class! Learn how to make a delicious tart that you can give to your Valentine (or to yourself, I’m not judging).

As you can see we are still mixing things up here at Hill Center, even though we still aren’t in person. But our virtual classes present a chance to share an experience with family and friends who aren’t near. We all could use some bonding with loved ones during these difficult times. So, we hope to see you and a friend virtually in the kitchen soon!
